KFC Canada is always looking for ways to connect with younger Canadians. In January 2018, when the crypto-currency craze hit its peak, the QSR teamed up with Grip to create the “Bitcoin Bucket.” Using the crypto-currency, KFC began trading the Bitcoin Bucket via a Facebook Live video that tracked the hyperfluctuating value of a $20 bucket in real-time. The live video directed Canadians to KFC’s website where they could trade their Bitcoins for a bucket of chicken at its current value. To do this, the restaurant integrated cryptocurrency payments into its online store and created an automatic system that sent the Bitcoin orders to local food delivery services. The “Bitcoin Bucket” became the most successful campaign in KFC Canada’s history, helping to increase the global Yum! Brands stock by $1.53 (in dollars, not Bitcoins).
