Toronto has seen incidences of violent gun crime rise 42% since 2013. Since it’s easy to ignore something if you’re not directly affected by it, The Coalition for Gun Control devised an in-yourface campaign that put the issue in the public eye with jarring installations, including a 13-foot bullet sculpture that was displayed at City Hall and transparent outdoor signs that were gradually filled with bullet casings, obscuring the city skyline. Outdoor placements, in-theatre PSAs and testimonial videos further drove viewers to TriggerChange.ca, which hosted an online petition for tougher action on handgun control that was signed by 23,000 and endorsed by the city’s Mayor.
